Inspiring young minds through teaching rooted in plant-based living and academic excellence.
About Atlas
Founded in 2022, Atlas Vegan Community School is a plant-based primary school in Mubende, Uganda, serving 200+ learners. 80% of them are vulnerable children who study for free.
We believe in nurturing the whole child by integrating plant-based nutrition, eco-conscious practices, and hands-on learning. Our community encourages creativity, critical thinking, and respect for all living beings.
Our mission
Empowering students to become compassionate, sustainable, and innovative leaders through vegan education and environmental stewardship.
Our vision
To become the leading vegan school and vocational program in Southern and East Africa, setting a new standard for sustainable education.
Our Story
On May 6th, 2022, Atlas Vegan Community School started with just five learners. Thanks to the generous support of our UK donor Violet, founder of Violet Vegan Comics, and her daughter, we were able to purchase land and construct a temporary school structure. Within one year, our school received recognition from PETA International, which came with our first award and funding of $1,000.
Today, we have 200 learners, 8 teaching staff, and 4 non-teaching staff. Our curriculum spans daycare to primary school, with vocational training in the works. We also acquired a school van, which has greatly improved our ability to reach children across long distances.
We are proud to have the support of the founder of Luv4all Canada, who has been with us from day one and serves as our patron and board member of Luv 4 All Foundation.
What we still need
We've made real progress, but several challenges remain:
A permanent school structure: Our current building is temporary. A permanent structure would give students and families greater safety and stability.
A school garden: We want to establish a permaculture garden to provide a sustainable source of food for students and the wider community.
Furniture and equipment: We need more seats and essential classroom equipment.
A borehole: Our current water tanks are insufficient. A borehole would give us a reliable, year-round water supply.
Digital literacy programs: We want to introduce computers and digital boards to prepare students for the digital age.
Sponsor a child
We rely on sponsorships to cover essential expenses for each child every school term (every 3 months).
Your sponsorship gives a child everything they need to show up, participate, and learn.
Nursery level:
$150 per child per term
Covers school fees, books, pencils and pens, paper, and coloring materials.
Primary level:
$180 per child per term
Covers school fees, books, pencils and pens, paper, and coloring materials.
